A crude oil storage tank in western China was observed to undergo server corrosion after regular open tank inspection. In order tofind out the corrosion causes, various investigations and analysis were carried out in laboratory. The test results of oilfield produced water, corrosion products, and bitumen sand showed that high total dissolved solid and corrosivity of oilfield produced water is the main cause of tank bottom plate corrosion.
