Objectives To explore the quality of life (QOL)of middle school students and its relevant factors. Methods A stratified sample of 349 middle school students was surveyed using the Chinese version of the Youth Quality of Life Instrument-Weight Module (YQOL-W).Wilcoxon rank sum text was conducted to examine the differences between gender, community,Body Mass Index (BMI)and annual household income groups.Spearman correlation coefficient was also calculated to examine the association between the YQOL-W scores and BMI value, age, respectively. Results Compared with normal weight students, overweight and obesity students reported lower QoL in subscale and total scores (P <0.001).In the overweight and obese group, significant differences were found in subscale and total scores across genders (P <0.001)and communities (urban, migrant, rural)(P <0.05).How-ever,no significant differences in annual household income were found except for social domain. Conclusions Over-weight and obesity have negative effects on middle school students'QOL,and therefore interventions should be taken to improve their quality of life.
