According to the need of tip relief of involute cylindrical gear, in order to fully develop the technical ad-vantages of tooth hobbing, using the geometrical feature of tangency of straight line and curve and the reference curve tooth profile of optimized cutter, purposed trimming by epicycloid on gear involute tooth profile at top land area is formed. This paper discusses the design principle and methods of straight tooth cutter under condition of cutting at positive rake angle, thus providing an easy and effective way for gear tip relief.
