The paper discusses the structure and the functions of the saddle on independent type-C liquid cargo tank for the small and medium liqueifed gas carriers. The structural strength of the saddle on a 6 500 m3 liqueifed gas carrier and the hull structure around it is assessed by the ifnite element method according to the“Rules for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liqueifed Gas in Bulk”. Several practical suggestions are proposed through calculation and analysis, which could provide technical supports for the safety of the 6 500 m3 liqueifed gas carrier under different operation conditions.
