西气东输是确保国家油气供应的骨干工程，二线管道工程是经国务院批准的国家重点工程，对沿线各地的经济和社会发展起重要的提升作用。西起新疆维吾尔自治区霍尔果斯口岸，总体走向由南西向东、由北向南，途径15个省市。其中南宁支干线广西段线路总长332km，该段碳酸盐岩分布较广，地表及底下岩溶发育，主要的工程问题为岩溶塌陷问题。
