《儒林外史》是中国文学史上的名著，成功塑造了中国封建时代读书人围绕科举考试寻求出路的各种形象。科举制在中国历史上影响巨大，它的出现，为中国封建时代读书人提供过巨大的人生前进动力，也为社会发展作出了贡献，但不思改进的科举制度为什么到明清时期会演变为戕害读书人心灵的工具，这值得大家思考。

The Scholars, an opus in Chinese literary history, is about scholars’ way to succeess through the imperial exam in feudal times. The imperial exam, an important role in Chinese history, provided great suppport for the feudal scholars as to their progress, thus con-tributing a lot to the society at that time. Neverthless, it is made unknown that this system of imperial examine became an constraint on hurting scholars’soul or mind, which deserves us to think over.
