Through the statistical analysis of the earthquake hazard, the vertical motion was too large to be negligible in some earthquakes. In this article, the main progress on the effects of vertical seismic motion on high-rise building structures is reported, include: earthquake damage caused by vertical motion, experimental research, calculating method of earthquake effect, and the seismic behavior of structure is analyzed. The vertical seismic-isolated technology used in frame structures is also reported.
