肠套叠主要发生在婴幼儿，成人并不常见。该疾病一旦发生通常发展较快，严重时可导致肠管坏死、中毒性休克，若不及时处理治疗可导致患儿死亡。关于婴幼儿肠套叠的发病原因和机制至今仍不明确，国内外很多学者分别提出了各种学说来解释肠套叠的发病原因，如病毒感染学说、肠道痉挛学说等，并且也都积极用试验来进一步佐证。近年来病毒感染与肠套叠之间联系的研究逐渐受到关注。

Intussusception occurs mainly in infants and young children,rarely in adults.Once the disease occurs,it usually develops quickly,and may lead to intestinal necrosis,toxic shock in severe cases,which may even lead to death if no prompt treatment is given .Various theories have been proposed to explain the etiology of intussusception,such as theory of virus infection,theory of intestinal cramps,etc.,which are also actively proved by trials.Studies of the link between virus infection and intussusception have gradually been brought to attention in recent years.
