T his article review s the most recent research studies on Patent M apping application in the R&D opportunity dis‐covery both at home and abroad .It focuses on the research progress in three important aspects :data source analysis and search strategy definition ;patent data mining and patent analysis ;R&D opportunity discovery analysis .It then explores the hot issues and some limitations in the above mentioned fields and finally identifies several directions for future re‐search .
