The demulsification technology for crude oil emulsion is one of the most important research topics in petroleum industry. In this paper, research progress in crude oil demulsification technologies was reviewed, such as chemical demulsification technology,physical demulsification technology, and microbial demulsification technology. The advantages of each demulsifacation method were summarized, and the important research directions in the application of these methods in commercial scale were discussed.
