Facing the market situation of the post-Panamax PCTC, the expansion of the new Panama Canal exerts a positive influence on the market demand for post-Panama PCTC. The resolution of the 66th MEPC conference in 2014 made provisions of the reduction coefficient and reference value for PCTC and proposed the standardEEDI value for this new ship type, technically making slow steaming a practical way to meet theEEDI requirement. From the aspects of main technical parameters, general arrangement,EEDI analysis, intact stability and damage stability, this paper elaborates design development of a 7600-unit post-Panamax PCTC, which features low fuel consumption, minimum ballast water departure and meets the latest IMO regulations onEEDI, fire protection and low noise level. The whole design concept meets the environmental protection requirements regarding energy saving and emission reduction. Finally, it points out that in order to meet the even more stringent IMO regulations on safety and environmental protection, the development of ship types with Tier Ⅲ duel fuel low speed engine that can meet the second generation intact stability regulations is a potential direction.
