Based on research in four communities in Kunming, through a bottom-up perspective, the paper discusses the relationships among residents, public trust, senses of belonging, dispute resolution and social integration in the formation of sustainable urban communities. By understanding policy implementa?tion at the grassroots level, this paper aims to consider the issue of sustainability in both community man?agement and urban planning. As part of the EU funded"UrbaChina: Sustainable Urbanization in China", the aim of the research team is to reflect on the impact fast urbanization has on residents'way of life.
