乾隆、嘉庆、道光三朝是有清一代最为繁盛的时期。在此期间，《桃花扇》作为秦淮艳事来观看，咏《桃花扇》表达兴亡之感的诗作亦多。在乾嘉学派考证之风的影响下，很多文人学士对《桃花扇》史实进行了考证辨析。《桃花扇》影响了后世戏曲、小说的创作。《桃花扇》是剧班必备剧目，在清代中期依然活跃在戏曲舞台上。
