飞机燃油箱内水分影响飞机安全并增加维护负担。目前只能通过定期手动地面排空油箱以防止油箱腐蚀和细菌生长。与此同时,为降低飞机燃油箱可燃性,机载制氮系统(OBIGGS)被引入到最新研飞机中,通过产生富氮气体(NEA)对油箱进行惰化。由于富氮气体干燥且温度较燃油稍高,可有效降低飞机燃油箱内水分。

Water contamination affects the aircraft safety and increase the maintenance cost. Currently aircraft have to be drained manually on ground at regular intervals to prevent corrosion and bacterial growth. Meanwhile, in order to reduce the aircraft fuel tank flammability, an On Board Inert Gas Generation System (OBIGGS) was applied to provide inert gas into the fuel system in the modern aircraft. Since the OBIGGS introduces dry and warm Nitrogen Enriched Air into the tank, it reduces the humidity of the ullage air. Hence it is considered to be a potential solution to the water contamination.
