河南大学南大门是中西合璧艺术风格的时代建筑典范，也是校园优秀近代建筑群的重要组成部分。2001年，为了解决进出校园的交通问题扩建了南大门。扩建方案设计时，为了保护与再利用原南大门，采取了文物保护最小干预的设计原则。扩建工程投入使用十多年，该扩建方案得到了业界的一致认同。回顾研究了扩建方案中的关键问题，提出了和谐手法是临近历史建筑扩建的理想设计思路。

The south gate of Henan University , which is a combination of Chinese and western architectural style , not just shoulders the responsibility of traffic , but is an important part of modern Chinese campus archi-tecture.The South Gate was expanded in 2001 for relieve traffic pressure.The scheme adopted a principle of minimum intervention for its historic preservation .The expansion program has come into service for more than 10 years and has been unanimously recognized .The key issues of the expansion program are studied , and the harmonious approach , as an ideal design idea , is close to the historic expansion of the proposed building .
