梅花在唐宋诗人的作品中作为一个光鲜亮丽的意象群被深受喜爱。这个意象群的形成，一方面是由于开放的季节为寒冷的冬季并带有芳香的自然特征，另一方面是诗人对梅花这两个自然特征的审美人格化。梅花傲雪凌霜的气质和坚贞不屈的品格，正好与历代文人士大夫所追求的精神境界相契合，因而是唐宋诗人描绘歌咏的一个主要内容。
