Taiwan writer Sima Zhongyuan's full-length novel Freak Sandstorm starts with Guan Baye who led the salt gangs to travel around the country as clues, and tells about the heroic deeds of the rock-bottom ordinary people in Northern Jiangsu Province against the Northern Warlords. Sima Zhongyuan describes the scene, the people and the stories in his hometown with homesickness relying on his own experience in chaos. He looks at and studies the rural life with the modern life consciousness and humanities consciousness, and presents the praise for the heroes, the cognition of the life and the thought of the human nature. The author expresses his mercy on the killing creature and his hopes for heroes, humanities and peace in the style of idealism. The novel is full of rough rural feeling, gloomy tragic mark and a mixture of the mysterious atmosphere.
