In January to June 1998, the Working Station on the Sanxingdui Site carried out excavation to explore tombs at Rensheng Village to the west of the western wall of the Sanxingdui site. There are two categories of burials : rectangular earthen pits and long narrow ones. The former tombs are furnished with second-tier platforms of cultivated soil at one or two ends in some cases. The bottom and walls of the pits have largely been patted, and the human skeletons have also been rammed. The grave goods consist of pottery and awl- and whorl-shaped jades. Judging from the unearthed objects, the tombs can be dated to the time corresponding to Ⅱ—Ⅳ phases of Erlitou culture.
