回首中国当代散文走过的历程,余秋雨无疑是一个大手笔,他坚持着一个最原始的主题:什么是蒙昧和野蛮,什么是他们的对手--文明.每一次搏斗,文明都未必取胜,因此他要远远近近呼喊几声.余秋雨痛苦、焦灼、激愤地拷问着健全人格的文化良知和知识分子的心路历程、历史命运,试图重返精神的伊甸园,寻求一方心灵的净土.然而在漫长的求索之路上,他却在重重矛盾中禁锢了自己理性的光芒.他在对历史的反思和对现实的追求中,踯躅在精神的苦旅中,追求着灵魂的飞翔.

In the development of modern Chinese prose Yu Qiuyu is regarded as a master. He sticks to a primitive theme： what is barbarism and uncivilization, and their opponent——civilization. Civilization does not definitely win over them in each round of struggle; therefore he would like to shout out his ideas. With pain, anxiety and anger, Yu constantly questions cultural conscience of healthy personality, pilgrimage and historical fate of intellectuals, and tries to return to spiritual Eden for the sake of the soul. However on the long way of search, he restricts his rationality with various contradictions. By reflecting on history and conducting his reality exploration, he is still struggling on the pilgrimage and seeking for the flight of the soul.
