There is a tendency of the historical dramas in South Korea that persona with low social status have become the hero/heroine, challenging the traditional focal position assumed by royal family, noblemen and national heroes. This new historical consciousness can be found in historical novels from both North Korea and South Korea that unorthodox historical text has taken the place of official history that is characterized by the motifs like ethnic pride or class struggle. The consciousness is recently exemplified by Kim Youngha＇ s Black Flower and Hong SeokJoong＇ s A Biography of Hwang Jinshik , both of which reflect the new fashion of the popular culture in both Koreas and the consciousness of constructing an integral Korean culture by both sides.
