In Chinese the translation of the English psychological term ＂personality＂ varied with the age. The original western meaning and evolvement of ＂personality＂were reviewed in this article. The results show that this concept is a multi-subject research target and carries a broad meaning today. Lastly the authors offered some advice and suggestions.
