宋代人的贞淫观较为宽泛，宋代士大夫身体力行反对妇女空守节义，宋代妇女改嫁极其普遍，涉及妇女各个阶层，宋代法律也允许妇女改嫁。另一方面理学家和统治者又极力想把封建枷锁套在妇女身上，反对妇女再嫁，但在当时实际上影响并不大。南宋以后直至元代，随着时间的推移和贞节观的进一步提倡，妇女再嫁才成为可耻的事。
송대인적정음관교위관범，송대사대부신체역행반대부녀공수절의，송대부녀개가겁기보편，섭급부녀각개계층，송대법률야윤허부녀개가。령일방면이학가화통치자우겁력상파봉건가쇄투재부녀신상，반대부녀재가，단재당시실제상영향병불대。남송이후직지원대，수착시간적추이화정절관적진일보제창，부녀재가재성위가치적사。
The view of chastity ＆ carnality in the Song Dynasty was broad, the scholar- bureaucrats set an example personally to oppose the women＇ s preserving moral integrity for nothing, so it is a general phenomenon for women to remarry at that time, which involved each estate of women from imperial to cuntryside. The law of the Song Dynasty also permitted the woman to remarry. However, the rationalistic Confucian philosophers and the rulers vigorously opposed the remarrying of women, though their influence was limited practically then. From Southern Song Dynasty onwards until the Yuan Dynasty, with the advocating of view of chasteness over time, the remarrying of women was regarded as a disgraceful behavior.
