The theory of sustainable development, based on the harmonious relationship between human being and nature, has inherited and changed the traditional development concept, which brought about far-reaching effects. The theory possessed internal logical consistency with the historical materialism. The latter provided ontological and epistemological foundation for the former, whereas, the theory of sustainable development enriched and deepened the cognation and understanding of the historical materialism.
