根据对各省市自治区1984年以采奥运项目成绩和运动员人数发展的分析研究．我国奥运项目可以分类成为以下五类：冰雪项目、优势项目、三大球、三大项和潜优势项目；全国可分成夏奥项目均衡发展地区、奥运优势项目优势地区、冬奥项目主导地区和奥运弱势地区4个地区。

According to the analysis and study of the Olympic achievement and the change of the athletes＇ number in the different provinces and autonomous regions since 1984, Olympic events in China can be divided into five categories , which includes skiing and skating, traditional （advantaged） sports, ＂three balls＂ （ basketball, volleyball, and football）, three sports events （ swimming, track and field events , aquatic sports ） and some potential traditional （ advantaged ） sports ; it can be divide into four regions, which are the balanced developmental area of the summer Olympic events , the traditional （advantaged） Olympic sports area, the area dominated by the winter Olympic events and the disadvantaged area of the Olympic events.
