林语堂的英语小说是一种特殊的英语文学。宣传中国传统文化的初衷和作者个人的文化理想以及种种其他因素互相交织，使得小说在思想内容上体现为假想的文化守成主义。小说也相应地成为反映中国妇女形象和生活的一面变形的镜子。

As a special kind of creative works of the English language, Lin Yutang＇s English novels interweave within them the author＇s original purpose to introduce the traditional Chinese culture, his own cultural idealism and other factors. Lin＇s novels, in which visionary cultural conservatism is presented thematically, inflect the image of Chinese women and their life. Through the analysis of the deep cause for Lin Yutang＇s ＂vision＂ and ＂inflection＂ in his works, this paper argues that what underlies literary conservatism is more of the individual or the collective cultural concern and literary pursuit in the historical context, and that more constraints for literary writings would be depicted if the acceptance and transformation of conservatism are explored.
