轻声是重音节前后的轻读弱化音节,对重音节有明显依附性,从而成为虚助成分和语法结构特定词类组合的语音标志。温州话话语中轻声变化出现广泛,分为两种：倚变轻声（Y）只出现在重音节后并随其调尾高低而变值。自变轻声（Z）则在重音节前后都可出现,还在Y后出现,总读最低值的自然轻声。本文列出温州方言所有含轻声的虚词、词尾及各种含轻声的结构式,并举出同音而由轻声辨义的大量词例。

Neutral tone is dependent on the stressed syllable （SS） it precedes or follows, serving as an auxiliary and phonetic symbol of specific categorical combination. The paper gives a detailed description of the correspondent neutral tone （CNT） vs. independent neutral tone （INT） in Wenzhou dialect, Zhejiang province. The CNT only follows the SS with a value correspondent to that of the SS＇s offset while the INT either precedes or follows the SS or even follows the CNT with a natural lowest value. The paper also lists all the functional words, affixes and constructions containing neutral tone in the dialect and provides examples of homophones semantically distinguishable by neutral tone.
