Based on the relevant 32 ^14C dates Peking University got by means of accelerator mass spectrographic analysis and the conventional method and the five data from the Beta Analytic Laboratory, USA, an absolute chronological sequence can be clearly established for the Zhongba site. These data preliminarily solved two important problems concerned with pre-Qin cultures in the Three Gorges region. Firstly, they provided a series of absolute chronological data that correspond with the relative chrono- logical sequence known from the periodization of pottery and are supported by stratigraphic evidence. Secondly, they prove that there exist three types of pottery objects belonging to three historical periods respectively, which account for an overwhelming majority of the total unearthed from the site and, as researchers believe, are concerned with salt industry. The present paper focuses on the ^14C data of the Zhongba site and explains a few irregular data.
