别义词是汉语里起区别意义作用的一类词。像反义聚合一样，别义聚合也是在人们心理联想的基础上形成的。反义聚合强调的是词与词之间意义上的相反或相对，别义聚合强调的则是词与词之间意义上的区别。反义聚合是双向、对等的，别义聚合是单向、不对等的。别义词是由于有参照词的存在才产生的，也是在为强调与参照词的区别时才使用的。别义词使用频率大大低于相应的参照词。词典上对别义词作出说明，有利于读者对词的意义和用法的理解。

Differentiated words are a group of the words in Chinese that function to differentiate them from others in meaning. Similar to antonymous paradigmatic relation, differentiated paradigmatic relation is created from people＇ s psychological association. While antonymous paradigmatic relation emphasizes the opposites and contrasts in the meaning of the words, differentiated paradigmatic relation emphasizes the differences in the meaning of the words. Antonymous paradigmatic relation is bi-directional and parallel whereas differentiated paradigmatic relation is uni-directional and unparallel. The differentiated words are created on the basis of the existence of the reference words and used to emphasize the differences from the reference words. The usage frequency of the differentiated words is much lower than that of the reference words. It is necessary and essential to annotate the differentiated words in dictionaries to facilitate readers＇ understanding their meaning and usage.
