明末张白勋的《纲目续麟》是第一部对《通鉴纲目》的全面订误之作，既承袭了《纲目》“以史明理”的著书主旨，又表现出不同于以往纲目史书的特色。它冲破了对朱熹的迷信，表现出不迷信权威、敢于提出质疑的心学特征；同时，它又注重以考据求义理，体现出向实证性史学发展的趋向。

Zhang Zixun＇s Gangmuxulin published in the later period of the Ming dynasty is the first one that gives a comprehensive revision of Tongjiangangmu. It follows the traditional principle of ＂reasoning through telling history＂ but has its traits different from the past outline-styled history books. It does not blindly worship Zhu Xi the scholar and dares to raise questions. It also puts emphasis on textual criticism and shows the orientation towards the historical study based on evidence.
