一般认为，中国现代修辞学是借用了西方修辞学结构框架建立起来的一门学问。但自上世纪末开始，这种看法发生动摇。有人认为中西修辞学是完全不同的两种学问，有人则认为中国修辞学当初借来的结构体系是西方人弃之不用的东西。人们一直为这些疑问所困扰，对修辞学的发展前途感到迷惘。为了更清楚地辨别现代修辞学的发展方向，促进中国修辞学在新世纪的改革创新，本文对中西现代修辞学展开调查，以便认识两者的差距，从中找到修辞学科的发展空间。

Chinese modern rhetoric is generally regarded as a discipline built upon the sytematical structure of Western rhetoric. However, this claim has been challenged since the end of last century. Some are certain that they are two different disciplines and others believed that the borrowed structure was something abandoned in the West. The acdemic world of rhetoric has been puzzled by such kind of problems and perplexed at the future development of rhetoric. Thus the paper makes an investigation on modern rhetoric in order to distinguish their developing trend and promote the innovation of Chinese rhetoric in the new century, from which we may probably recognize their differences and find the developing space for rhetoric.
