大学语文以培养学生语言能力,传承传统文化和陶冶情操、培育人文精神为基本目的和主要任务。培养语言能力之所以重要,是因为语言的训练在根本上是思维的训练,是思想能力的培养,而大学时代是人思维走向定型、思想迈向成熟的关键时期;在传承文化方面,我们认为主要是为了认识、了解我们自己,认清我们的当下现实,为发展新(传统)文化,为社会的进步、为未来服务;而所谓人文精神的培养,则一方面是要学生认识到人文学科(首先就是“大学语文”本身)的重要性并乐于去学习,另一方面是以引导、熏陶、涵养的方式去进行教育,要让学生大量地阅读人文性作品,在这种广泛阅读中逐渐养成人文素质、人文情操。

The basic aim and major task of "University Chinese" are to train the undergraduates' language ability, pass down traditional culture, cultivate their taste and breed their humanist spirit. The reasons why it is important to train language ability are because the cultivation of language is basically to cultivate thinking ways and thinking ability. Yet the period of university is a key time for the undergraduates to enter into fixation of thinking and maturation of mentality. On passing down culture, we think our task is to know and understand ourselves, and to know clearly the current situation so as to develop new culture and serve for the advance of society and for the future. The socalled cultivation of humanist spirit means to let students realize the importance of the humanity subjects and the pleasure of learning them. On the other hand, we shall educate students by the means of guiding, nurturing and cultivating to let them largely read humanist works so as to train their humanist quality and sentiment.
