This paper emphasizes that the current concept of harmonious education is put forward in the context of a grand blueprint for building a harmonious society in China entering the 21st century. The author explores the relationship among ideal countries, ideal citizens and ideal educations, and regards it as the starting point of discussing harmonious education. The paper puts forward harmonious philosophy in the perspective of trans-cultural dialogues between the east and the west, which is very significant for harmonious education. It then demonstrates the necessity of harmonious philosophy to promote the development of harmonious education by analyzing five contradictions existing in current china education reality.
