农林高等院校的学科综合化发展是一个方向，发达国家的实践已证明了这一点。我国农林高等院校也正在以不同形式、不同速度朝这个方向发展。我国一些农林院校的综合化发展已达到相当程度，但在校名的称谓上还坚持不脱“农”字，结果造成名不符实的现象，更严重的是“农”字校名阻碍学校的发展。本文借鉴国内外农林院校向综合型方向发展的经验，认为我国现有农林高等院校没有必要坚持“农”字称谓。
농림고등원교적학과종합화발전시일개방향，발체국가적실천이증명료저일점。아국농림고등원교야정재이불동형식、불동속도조저개방향발전。아국일사농림원교적종합화발전이체도상당정도，단재교명적칭위상환견지불탈“농”자，결과조성명불부실적현상，경엄중적시“농”자교명조애학교적발전。본문차감국내외농림원교향종합형방향발전적경험，인위아국현유농림고등원교몰유필요견지“농”자칭위。
It is a trend for an agriculture or forestry university to develop into a comprehensive one, which has been proved by the practice of the developed countries. The agriculture and forestry universities in China are also going in this direction in the different forms and speeds. In fact, some agriculture and forestry universities in China are already highly comprehensive. But they have been still taking ＂agriculture＂ in their university names. What is more serious is that it hinders the further comprehensive development and upgrade of these universities. Most former agriculture and forestry universities in developed countries have taken the word ＂agriculture＂ off from their university names in their comprehensive developing process. Thus, the agriculture and forestry universities in China needn＇t persist putting the word ＂agriculture＂ on their names.
