明太祖设立锦衣卫的最初用意在于强化和提高皇权。但随着明代政治走向的曲折变化，其行为范畴也随着明朝君主的实际具体需要而有所变化。明代司礼监及内阁势力的消长对锦衣卫的行为也产生着实质性的影响作用，锦衣卫镇抚司不仅仅服务于皇帝，锦衣卫的卫帅也视司礼监、内阁权势高下而与之交结，对明代的政治走向影响巨大。考察锦衣卫自身行为范畴的变化，有助于理解明代皇权的发展走势。

objective of setting up the JinYiwei guard （锦衣卫） is to strengthen and enhance imperial power of the Ming dynasty. As time passes and the situation has changed. The behavior of the JinYiwei guard has change too. the SiLijian and the Cabinet made a gaeat influence on the JinYiwei guard＇ s behavior. The JinYiwei guard not only serves for the emperors, but also has something to do with the SiLijian and the Cabinet. The behaviors of The JinYiwei guard have effect on political alignment of the Ming dynasty. Especially at the end of the Ming dynasty, The JinYiwei guard became suppress instrument and hurt the politics of the Ming dynasty. At the same time, to inspect the changes of The JinYiwei guard＇ s behaviors oould help us to study trend of centralization of the Ming dynasty.
