美国从建国之初就非常重视公民教育,至今已有200多年的历史,其实践探索值得研究。美国建国至内战时期学校公民教育的基本内容是注重公民美德的培养,灌输中产阶级的价值观;其主导途径是公民性的传递。这一时期的公民教育取得了巨大的成就,但理想与现实之间也存在着一定的差距。

Citizenship education has been taken into account from the beginning of America and has already been held on for more than two hundred years. It is worth studying the practice of citizenship education in America. The essay analyzes content, approaches and outcomes of American citizenship education from the beginning of the nation to civil war, holding that its content were civic virtues and values of mid-class, main approach was citizenship transmission and some achievements was gotten.
