语言文字的整理规范，必须坚持以科学性为基本原则。科学性原则就是符合语言文字自身的本质和规律的原则，具有充分的理据性和合理性。我们对于语言文字进行过一些整理规范，由于没有坚持以科学性为基本原则，结果造成了不少的错误和遗憾。对语言文字进行整理规范，必须取决于社会的需要。现在直至将来很长的一段时间，我们的语言文字的整理规范工作，必须是对这些不适应社会需要的汉字和不同的读音进行精简。

The research principle for investigating and standardizing languages and writing systems should be scientifically oriented, that is, to follow the law and nature of languages and writing systems with a solid foundation of rationality. The past experience has proved that without scientific principles there would occur numerous errors. Thus, the principle for investigating and standardizing languages and writing systems must aim to satisfy the social needs. For a long time in the future, this research should aim at simplifying the Chinese characters and pronunciations that cannot satisfy the needs of our society.
