蒋廷黻的琦善研究以中外档案为依据，填补了中国近代外交史研究的空白，并且成为了这一研究领域的新标准。他对琦善的一些论断即便在今天的研究水平下也是不能被推翻的。时人对他做翻案文章的理解与他的真实意图存在着差距。他的目的在于为中国抵抗帝国主义侵略找一条切实可行的道路，即运用外交手段求得和平，以现代化的方法来与帝国主义相抗衡。
장정불적기선연구이중외당안위의거，전보료중국근대외교사연구적공백，병차성위료저일연구영역적신표준。타대기선적일사론단즉편재금천적연구수평하야시불능피추번적。시인대타주번안문장적리해여타적진실의도존재착차거。타적목적재우위중국저항제국주의침략조일조절실가행적도로，즉운용외교수단구득화평，이현대화적방법래여제국주의상항형。
Jiang Ting- fu made his Kishen studies on the base of Chinese and foreign files. His works filled the blanks and became a new standard in the studies of modem Chinese diplomatic history. Even for now,some of his ideas can not be overturnd. But at that time, people thought he tried to say good words for a bad and scared of England man which actually was not Jiang Ting -fu＇real purpose. He tried to find a feasible road to anti -imperialism. Here is his road that use diplomatic means to get a peaceful environment and then modernize China.
