Modern American writer William Faulkner created a tragic image of Caddy successfully from four different points of view in The Sound and the Fury. Caddy is beautiful and kind-hearted, but she degenerates at last. This paper argues that the direct contributing factor for her tragedy is the abnormal home circumstances affected by female virtues tradition in southern America, and the indirect contributing factor for her tragedy is the oppression and mental torture to women from female virtues tradition in the Puritanic cultural background in southern America.
