群众体育与社会发展密切相关，目前中国社会正处于转型时期，在特殊的历史时期，根据产品性质理论，我国群众体育兼有公共品与私人品的性质，是体育事业与体育产业的混合体。群众体育在现阶段呈现出自身的特点：价值取向上增强体质仍是主流；双重管理体制并存；城乡呈现两极分化现象；公共体育场所运动人群以老年人群为主；中年女性成为健身娱乐消费的主要力量；农村体育发展效率低下；小城镇体育迅速崛起等等。

Mass sport is closely related to social development. At present, the Chinese society is in a period of social transition. In such a special historical period, according to the theory of product nature, mass sport in China is pro- vided with the nature of both public article and personal article, being the mixture of the sports undertaking and sports industry. At current stage mass sport presents its own characteristics： value orientation and physical en- hancement are still the mainstream; dual management systems exist concurrently; urban and rural areas show the sign of polarization; sports groups in public sports venues are mainly the elderly; middle age females become the main force for fitness entertainment consumption; the efficiency of sports development in rural areas is low; sport in small towns is booming.
