《我弥留之际》因其独特的模糊性和不确定性引发了关于该作品文学流派、主题、文体、叙事结构及视角处理等方面的无数论争，但对于小说题旨中暗示的主人公艾迪·本德伦的永恒弥留和荒诞葬礼的开放意义，学界尚未提出令人信服的解析和结论。本文试图运用结构主义阅读学者麦克·瑞法特尔互文性理论中文本释义的阅读策略对这一学界的争议焦点予以回答，论证小说情节展开围绕的核心家庭人物艾迪由作家“谐音双关”的命名而在文本间形成的配意“漩涡”，正是它建构了文本符号系统建诸其上的“母体”。本文试图说明文本潜在的语符系统指向小说的内在恒定结构——“漩涡”，从而得出结论：本德伦一家的送葬的艰难历程即象征漩涡意义的扩张之旅。

Ever since the novel＇s first appearance, As I Lay Dying has sparked unceasing arguments over its problematic genre, theme, style, structure and deviant treatment of time and perspective with its exceptional opacity and undecidability. Few, however, came up with a convincing interpretation and conclusion concerning Addie Bundren, the opaque protagonist＇s everlasting dying and the absurd funeral. The article attempts to unveil the mystery by applying the ＂Riffaterrean＂ reading strategy--using intertextuality to achieve greater interpretative certainty. The study proposes that Addie, the family and text center, puns on ＂eddy＂ to formulate the ＂matrix＂ of the target story, the kernel upon which the text＇s semiotic system is based. The underlying semiotic elements point to the ＂invariant＂ structure- ＂eddy＂. The paper concludes that the Bundrens＇ burial journey parallels the expansion of the textual eddy.
