许衡的《编年歌括》以歌谣的形式铺叙历史，是诗、史联姻的结晶，体现了作者的历史观念。组诗的艺术特色主要反映在整体编排，时间意识，概括简约，历史真实性和客观性、历史意识与审美意识的统一以及语言的通俗化、精炼化、形象化和音乐性、节奏性等方面，具有文史兼备的特点，是前代咏史诗传统的进一步发展和创新。

Xu Heng＇ s Bian Nian Ge Kuo relates history in the form of ballads and is the child of a marriage between poetry and history. It embodies Xu＇ s historical ideas.
