我国进入市场经济体制后，社会就业机制发生了根本的变化。其中，重要标志之一就是灵活就业形式取代安置就业而成为社会就业的主渠道。自主创业群体是现阶段我国社会灵活就业的主要形式之一，这种就业形式的特点，就是政府本身不必投入资金、技术就可能得到大量的就业岗位。作者从调查的实际出发，对自主创业的发展过程进行了客观分析，对我国自主创业提出了分类研究，对我国如何规范、鼓励、扶持自主创业的目标、策略等提出了对策与建议。
