科学技术的边缘化、人口素质的边缘化、环境保护与可持续发展的边缘化和制度设计的边缘化是城市边缘化问题的四种边缘化途径，以1984、1995和2004年的统计数据对除制度设计之外的边缘化指标进行了计算，得出结论：中国城市体系中西部城市处于科学技术边缘化危机中，并存在继续拉大的趋势；中国城市体系中西部城市面临人口素质或劳动力质量边绿化的危险；中国西部城市发展的同时，地区环境保护与可持续发展状况面临巨大挑战。
科學技術的邊緣化、人口素質的邊緣化、環境保護與可持續髮展的邊緣化和製度設計的邊緣化是城市邊緣化問題的四種邊緣化途徑，以1984、1995和2004年的統計數據對除製度設計之外的邊緣化指標進行瞭計算，得齣結論：中國城市體繫中西部城市處于科學技術邊緣化危機中，併存在繼續拉大的趨勢；中國城市體繫中西部城市麵臨人口素質或勞動力質量邊綠化的危險；中國西部城市髮展的同時，地區環境保護與可持續髮展狀況麵臨巨大挑戰。

There are four types of marginalization in China： the marginalization of scientific technology, the margin- alization of population＇ s quality, the marginalization of sustain- able development and environmental protection, and the marginalization of institutional design. In this paper, we calculate quantitative indexes except the one of the marginalization of institutional design with statistic data in 1984,1995 and 2004, and come to the conclusions： firstly, cities in western China are confronted with the marginalization of scientific technology and the tendency is more enlarged; secondly, the population quality of the cities in western China faces the danger of being enlarged; finally, the environmental protection and the sustainable development of the cities in western China are being greatly challenged.
