素质是人类在自然界求生存和谋发展的必备能力。每种素质都有不同的方向性。素质可归结为三种类型，即向上不变性素质、向下不变性素质和上下可变性素质。先天遗传因素和后天环境影响都可以不同程度地改变人的素质，其中艺术作为后天环境影响力最大。艺术可将自然界和人类社会中丑的事物转化为美，产生一种向上的力量，这种力量会极大地提升人的素质水平。从脑科学角度讲，艺术可以改变人的素质方向也是有其科学依据的。

Qualities are essential facuhies with which one can live and develop in the natural world and society. Every kind of quality has its different directional trait. According to the clue of directional property, all the qualities can be divided into three kinds. The first kind of qualities are those that will not be changed in their own property by keeping developing up- ward. The second kind of qualities are those that will not be changed in their property by keeping developing downward. The last kind of qualities are those that could be changed in their property by developing upward or downward to a certain degree. People＇ s qualities can be altered to different degrees by the factors of innate heredity or the influence of postnatal surroundings, in which art, as a part of postnatal surrounding influence, can produce a great impact over one＇ s quality level. Art can convert the ugly things in the natural world and society into beautiful ones, produce a kind of positive power, and elevate people＇ s quality level greatly. The theory that art can change the direction of people＇ s quality is based on cerebral science.
