早期斯多亚主义的表象概念中蕴涵着理性的因子。爱比克泰德以表象概念中的理性因子为中介，将表象视同话语，将“运用表象”置换成“运用话语”，为个人通达幸福的可能性提供了理论依据。从话语角度出发，“正确运用表象”也即以正确的先在话语系统对受外部境遇决定的“初次出现的表象（话语）”实施改造和替换，以求得人生的自由和幸福。

The concept ＂impression＂ in early stoicism contains the element of reason. Epictetus regards impression as discourse by taking the reasoning element in the concept as medium, and replaces ＂making use of impressions＂ with ＂making use of words＂, so he provides a theory construction for the probability of individual eudaemonia. From the perspective of words, ＂ change making use of impressions＂ is to and replace first impressions （words） determinated by exterior circumstances with the correct already existing words system, by which human being can obtain freedom and eudaemonia.
