朱熹在否定了韩愈道统思想的基础上重新确立了儒家的道统系谱,把自己的理学摆在儒学的正统位置上。朱子学传到日本后,"暗斋学派"的创始人山崎暗斋对朱子学推崇备至,认为朱子学是儒学之正统,自己全盘继承朱子的思想并捍卫其在日本的正统地位,也就承续了朱子在日本的道统系谱,提出"道统之心法"的传承方法,并以此来批判"异端邪说"。山崎暗斋还把儒家的道统观念与日本的"神统"、"皇统"观念结合起来,为"神统"、"皇统"提供理论依据。
