质量管理活动的实证测度是国外运营管理领域的重要内容之一,但国内在此领域的研究却相对少见:本文以重庆市制造业企业为样本,通过两阶段问誊调查收集数据,采用探索性因子分析和结构方程的方法,对我国制造业企业质量管理活动的内容进行了实证研究一结果表明,我国制造业企业中的质量管理活动可以归纳为领导支持、员工参与、员工素质、统计控制、产品设计和流程管理等内容。同时,对质量管理活动的划分为基础活动与核心活动提供了实证支持。研究刻画了质量管理活动的运作机理,指出核心活动与基础活动的有机结合将有助于企业质量管理水平的提升。此外,研究还建议在我国企业质量管理实践中应加强对客户和供应商的重视与支持。

The empirical measurement of quality management practices is one of important issues in the field of operations management in foreign countries. It is argued that quality management practices can be divided into core practices and infrastructure practices while it lacks empirical evidence. In China, such studies are still in its infancy and need more practical supports. This study aims to address this gap by exploring the measurement of quality management practices and examining the relationship between core practices and infrastructure practices in the context of China. The data were obtained from two-stage questionnaire survey of 161 managers in Chongqing manufacturing sector. The exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling are used to empirically investigate the measurement of quality management practices. The results show that the quality management practices in China can be categorized into leadership support practices, employee involvement practices, workforce aptitude practices, product design practices, statistical control and feedback practices, and process flow management practices. The reinforcement of above practices will drive the development of quality management in China. The conclusions also give verification to the taxonomy that quality management practices consist of core practices and infrastructure practices. The former includes leadership supports practices, employee involvement practices, and workforce aptitude practices and the latter involves product design practices, statistical control and feedback practices, and process flow management practices. Furthermore, the functioning mechanism of quality management practices is depicted as follows: core practices has direct impacts on quality and firm performance while infrastructure practices provide supports to core practices and has only indirect impacts. In addition, the interaction of infrastructure practices and core practices are helpful for the advancement of quality management. Finally, the findings reveal that customer and supplier related practices do not exist in the quality management in Chinese context, which is different from foreign studies. Maybe, it implies that they should be enhanced in China.
