This paper,focusing on Ai Qing＇s opinions on poetry,formulates his essential stylistic concept-poetry as beautiful prose in terms of four aspects,i.e.,the new poetry（the free vernacular verse rising in modern China） has nothing to do with the traditional metrical poetry;the new poetry uses its language for expressing its imagery;the metrics and rhymes of the new poetry are closely related to the imagery it depicts,and ＂poetry as beautiful prose＂ correlates highly with ＂beautiful prose＂.It then summarizes the specific connotations of Ai＇s concept of ＂poetry as beautiful prose＂.
