对于麦尔维尔的悲剧史诗《白鲸》,中外学者对之的解读与论述可谓浩如烟海。小到人物分析、主题探索,大至文本的历史建构以及帝国话语等等。然而对于亚哈船长的评论多集中在批判其偏执、疯狂等悲剧性格弱点而导致的自身悲剧、全体船员的毁灭以及隐喻意义上的警示。本文作者认为,亚哈是典型的尼采式英雄,是尼采倡导的酒神精神的化身。亚哈的猎鲸与复仇之路充分体现了酒神精神的内核——倡扬非理性主义、肯定痛苦、彰显不屈的生命意志,从而践行＂积极悲观主义＂的人生观。

The interpretation of Herman Melville＇s Moby-Dick has been numerous, ranging from character analysis, thematic reading to the historical construction of the text as well as imperial discourse, etc. However, the interpretations of Captain Ahab mainly focus on his tragic flaws like monomania and frenzy and the corresponding individual tragedy, the doom of the crew and the warnings in a metaphorical sense. The present authors believe that Captain Ahab is a typical Nietzschean hero, who is the incarnation of Dionysian Spirit. Ahab＇s whaling revenge on Moby-Dick embodies the kernel of Dionysian Spirit-affirming the misery of life, eulogizing the will of life even in the way of suicidal individualism, and therefore adopting his life attitude based on positive pessimism.
