目前，学者们考察了行业、公司、业务、国家等因素对企业绩效的影响，但控制这些因素后，企业绩效仍有部分方差没有得到解释。文章在相关文献回顾的基础上，认为这些方差可以用区域背罱进行解释，并选择中国52个城市的规模以上工业制造企业为样本，考察了区域背景对企业绩效的影响，研究发现区域背景对企业绩效有着重要的影响，并且区域背景会调节行业因素对企业绩效的影响，研究还发现区域背景对企业绩效的影响程度随着区域经济发展程度的提升而降低，即经济越发达地区，区域背景对企业绩效的影响越小。

Previous studies have explored the predictors of business unit performance in multiple - business firms and investigated the ex- tent of the effect of industry, corporate, and business unit on the performance of a business unit. But there is still some variance that can＇t be explained. We review the literature and thought the variance may caused by area factors. So we focuse on manufacture corporations of china 52 areas and examines the extent to which area effects explain the variation in the performance of company. Our findings show that area effects are as strong as industry effects. The area may moderate the relation between industry and performance. Our results also sug- gest that area and industry effects are not critical in developed areas, and more salient in developing areas.
